Morphologies


    Main morphologies of packaging: structural typologies, formal configurations, and design solutions adopted within packaging systems.

    The analysis of morphologies enables observation of how form, structure, and the articulation of components influence functional performance, product protection, logistical dynamics, and user interaction. 

    Considered in relation to materials, production processes, and design strategies, morphologies represent a key dimension for understanding the evolution of packaging solutions and the transformations currently affecting the packaging sector.

    Adhesive Label
    An adhesive label (or sticker) is a thin material, usually paper or plastic film, with an adhesive layer on one side, protected by a backing sheet (liner), designed to be peeled off and applied to surfaces for identification, decoration or information purposes, adhering with light pressure.
     
    Labels can be supplied in sheets or rolls; for industrial applications, they are usually preferred on rolls.

    In some more complex configurations, they may

    • have an adhesive applied in a pattern and with areas of varying tack (permanent, removable or neutralised)
    • be multi-layered (actual laminates)
    • incorporate very specific components and functions (RFID, vacuum valves, etc.).
    Etichetta adesiva
    Un’etichetta adesiva (o sticker) è un materiale sottile, solitamente carta o film plastico, con uno strato adesivo su un lato, protetto da un foglio di carta distaccante, progettato per essere staccato e applicato su superfici per identificazione, decorazione o informazione, aderendo con una leggera pressione.
     
    Le etichette possono essere fornite in fogli o bobine; per impieghi industriali si preferisce solitamente averle in bobina.

    In alcune configurazioni più complesse possono

    • avere un adesivo applicato a mappa e con zone a diversa adesività (permanente, riposizionabile, neutralizzata)
    • essere multistrato (dei veri e propri laminati)
    • possono integrare componenti e funzioni molto specifici (RFID, vacuum valve ecc).

    Clamshell Pack
    A Clamshell Pack is single‑piece packaging structure comprising two complementary shells connected by an integral hinge, designed to close onto itself to form an enclosure for a product
    The shells and the hinge are formed from a single continuous piece of material, which may be thermoformed plastic, molded fibre, or die‑cut and folded paperboard.
    Confezione con apertura a conchiglia
    Una confezione a conchiglia è una struttura monopezzo composta da due gusci complementari collegati da una cerniera integrata, progettata per chiudersi su se stessa e formare un involucro per un prodotto.
    I gusci e la cerniera sono formati da un unico pezzo continuo di materiale, che può essere plastica termoformata, fibra stampata o cartone fustellato e piegato.

    Skin Pack
    Packaging consisting of a thin thermoplastic film vacuum-sealed around a product placed on a rigid base (treated cardboard or tray) When heated, the film softens and, thanks to the vacuum, is drawn to adhere perfectly to the contours of the product, sealing it hermetically to the base. This type of packaging, where the film acts as a "second skin", ensures maximum visibility and protection.
    Unlike Blister packaging, the film is not pre-formed but molded during the process. It is the preferred choice for hardware, luxury accessories, or DIY kits, as it secures the items to prevent movement and oxidation while allowing for effective vertical peg-board display.

    Imballaggio a pelle
    Confezione costituita da un sottile film in materiale termoplastico avvolto sottovuoto attorno a un prodotto posizionato su una base rigida (cartoncino trattato o vaschetta) Il film riscaldato, rammollisce e, tramite il vuoto, viene portato ad aderire perfettamente ai contorni del prodotto sigillandolo ermeticamente al supporto. Questo tipo di confezione garantisce massima visibilità e protezione.
    A differenza del Blister, il film non è pre-formato ma si modella in tempo reale sulla forma dell’oggetto.
    È ideale per minuterie metalliche, accessori di pregio o kit di riparazione, poiché blocca saldamente il contenuto impedendone lo sfregamento e l’ossidazione, permettendo al contempo l’esposizione verticale su ganci.
