Acronym for Near Field Communication technology, NFC is a short-range wireless communication mode based on inductive pairing between compatible devices. It enables the simultaneous transmission of data and energy quickly and securely by simply bringing two devices together (within about 10 cm), without the need for physical connections.This technology is widely used in areas such as identification, authentication, contactless payments and interaction with smart objects, even miniaturised and battery-free ones.
The main usage modes of NFC include:
- Peer-to-Peer (P2P): enables the two-way exchange of data between two devices, such as smartphones or tablets, by simply bringing them together.
- Smart Card Simulation (Card Emulation): through the Host Card Emulation (HCE) protocol, an NFC device can behave like a payment or access card, making secure transactions possible with compatible terminals.
- Reading and writing NFC tags: interaction with small passive chips (tags), operating at 13.56 MHz, equipped with a unique identification code and rewritable memory, used to identify, track or activate digital content via NFC readers such as smartphones.
Acronimo che identifica la tecnologia Near Field Communication, l’NFC è una modalità di comunicazione wireless a corto raggio basata sull’accoppiamento induttivo tra dispositivi compatibili. Consente la trasmissione simultanea di dati ed energia in modo rapido e sicuro, semplicemente avvicinando due dispositivi (entro circa 10 cm), senza necessità di connessioni fisiche. Questa tecnologia è ampiamente utilizzata in ambiti quali l’identificazione, l’autenticazione, i pagamenti contactless e l’interazione con oggetti intelligenti, anche miniaturizzati e privi di batteria.
Le principali modalità d’uso dell’NFC includono:
- Peer-to-Peer (P2P): permette lo scambio bidirezionale di dati tra due dispositivi, come smartphone o tablet, semplicemente avvicinandoli.
- Simulazione di smart card (Card Emulation): attraverso il protocollo Host Card Emulation (HCE), un dispositivo NFC può comportarsi come una carta di pagamento o accesso, rendendo possibili transazioni sicure con terminali compatibili.
- Lettura e scrittura di tag NFC: interazione con piccoli chip passivi (tag), operanti a 13,56 MHz, dotati di un codice identificativo univoco e di una memoria riscrivibile, utilizzati per identificare, tracciare o attivare contenuti digitali tramite lettori NFC come smartphone.
