Recycling of raw materials
Process that consists in the recovery of raw materials from used materials, with the aim of reintroducing them into production cycles, reducing the use of virgin resources and the environmental impact.
Common examples include the remelting of metals in the metallurgical industry or the production of cardboard from recycled paper.
There are two main methods:
Recycling (recycling in the strict sense): the material is recovered and reused while maintaining, in part or completely, the original properties.
Downcycling: the material is reused for products of lower quality or performance than the original, due to a loss of functional properties.

Processo che consiste nel recupero di materie prime da materiali usati, con l’obiettivo di reintrodurle nei cicli produttivi, riducendo l’uso di risorse vergini e l’impatto ambientale.
Esempi comuni includono la rifusione di metalli nell’industria metallurgica o la produzione di cartone a partire da carta riciclata.
Si distinguono due modalità principali:
Recycling (riciclaggio in senso stretto): il materiale viene recuperato e riutilizzato mantenendo, in parte o completamente, le proprietà originarie.
Downcycling: il materiale viene riutilizzato per prodotti di qualità o prestazioni inferiori rispetto all’originale, a causa di una perdita di proprietà funzionali.
