Sulapac
Sulapac Ltd is a Finnish company based in Helsinki, founded in 2016 by biochemists Suvi Haimi and Laura Kyllönen (Tirkkonen-Rajasalo) with the aim of replacing conventional plastic with a fully biodegradable material.
The Sulapac® material combines FSC-certified wood chips from sustainably managed Nordic forests with natural binders, offering plastic-like properties (oil and oxygen resistance) while fully biodegrading without leaving microplastics, even in marine environments according to third-party accredited lab tests.
Usable with existing injection moulding machinery without the need for new facilities, the material was first adopted by Finnish cosmetics brands such as Naviter, before expanding to luxury brands: CHANEL became both a customer (caps for the Les Eaux de CHANEL fragrance) and an investor.
Sulapac also partners with Stora Enso on biodegradable straws and with TotalEnergies Corbion on recycled biopolymers, and is backed by investors including Lifeline Ventures, Business Finland and the EU's Horizon 2020 programme.

Il materiale Sulapac® combina cippato di legno certificato FSC proveniente da foreste nordiche gestite in modo sostenibile con leganti naturali, offrendo proprietà simili alla plastica (resistenza a oli e ossigeno) pur biodegradando completamente senza lasciare microplastiche, anche in ambienti marini secondo test di laboratori terzi accreditati.
Utilizzabile con i macchinari di stampaggio a iniezione già esistenti, senza necessità di nuovi impianti, il materiale è stato adottato inizialmente da brand cosmetici finlandesi come Naviter, per poi espandersi a marchi del lusso: CHANEL è divenuta sia cliente (tappi della fragranza Les Eaux de CHANEL) sia investitrice.
Sulapac collabora inoltre con Stora Enso su cannucce biodegradabili e con TotalEnergies Corbion su biopolimeri riciclati, ed è sostenuta da investitori quali Lifeline Ventures, Business Finland e il programma Horizon 2020 dell'UE.
