    Research, teaching, training and dissemination initiatives that make visible the operational, collaborative and relational dimensions of the platform.

    It gathers scientific publications, graduate and doctoral theses, workshops, seminars, conferences, collaborations with companies, design experimentations, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing and promoting the project developed by the research group.

    This section highlights the applied and interdisciplinary nature of the work undertaken, emphasising the ongoing dialogue between academia, the productive system, and the territory. It is not conceived as a closed archive, but as an evolving process, intended to expand and develop over time.

    On Thursday, 7 November 2024, Ecomondo will host the international conference Reuse, Repair, Rethink, Reform at Rimini Expo Centre. The event will bring together institutions, universities and companies to discuss how design can support circular economy practices, from reuse and repairability to durability and eco-design, highlighting responsible innovation as a key driver for the sustainable transition of European manufacturing systems.
    Giovedì 7 novembre 2024, nell’ambito di Ecomondo, la conferenza internazionale Reuse, Repair, Rethink, Reform porterà a Rimini Expo Centre un confronto tra istituzioni, università e imprese sui nuovi scenari dell’economia circolare. L’incontro approfondirà il ruolo del design nel promuovere pratiche di riuso, riparabilità, durabilità ed eco-design, con particolare attenzione alla transizione sostenibile dei sistemi produttivi europei.

    Roberto Polloni delivered the webinar Advanced Design and Supply Chain Innovation: PPWR from Regulatory Constraint to Opportunity for UCIMA – the Italian Packaging Machinery Manufacturers’ Association, focusing on the design and strategic implications of the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

    The talk examined the role of Advanced Design in helping companies interpret the PPWR not only as a compliance requirement, but also as an opportunity to rethink processes, materials, packaging systems and supply chain relationships. The webinar addressed the connection between regulation, industrial innovation, sustainability and competitiveness, with particular attention to how compliance can become a design lever for developing more efficient, circular and responsible solutions.
    Roberto Polloni ha tenuto per UCIMA – Unione Costruttori Italiani Macchine Automatiche per il Confezionamento e l’Imballaggio il webinar Advanced Design e innovazione di filiera: il PPWR da vincolo normativo a opportunità, dedicato alle implicazioni progettuali e strategiche del nuovo Regolamento europeo sugli imballaggi e i rifiuti di imballaggio.

    L’intervento ha approfondito il ruolo dell’Advanced Design nel supportare le imprese nella lettura del PPWR non solo come obbligo di adeguamento, ma come occasione per ripensare processi, materiali, sistemi di packaging e relazioni di filiera. Al centro del webinar, il rapporto tra normativa, innovazione industriale, sostenibilità e competitività, con particolare attenzione alla possibilità di trasformare la compliance in leva progettuale per lo sviluppo di soluzioni più efficienti, circolari e responsabili.

    Workshop with Giflex companies: FuturE-Pack at the centre of dialogue between research and the packaging supply chain Workshop con imprese Giflex: FuturE-Pack al centro del dialogo tra ricerca e filiera del packaging
    The workshop promoted by Giflex (Assografici specialization group), in collaboration with the Packaging Innovation Observatory of the Advanced Design Unit at the University of Bologna, took place on 22 January 2026 in Milan and represented a key moment for the dissemination and validation of the results of the FuturE-Pack project.
    The event enabled a direct exchange between research and companies across the packaging supply chain, supporting the evaluation of developed solutions in relation to industrial needs and practices.
    The workshop focused on two core project outputs: an interactive digital platform and a design toolkit aimed at supporting traceability, innovation, and the systemic design of smart and sustainable packaging solutions. The initiative contributed to strengthening the dialogue between academia and industry, highlighting the role of packaging as an enabling infrastructure for circular transition.
    Il workshop promosso da Giflex - Gruppo Imballaggio Flessibile (gruppo di specializzazione di Assografici), in collaborazione con l’Osservatorio Innovazione Packaging dell’Advanced Design Unit dell’Università di Bologna, si è svolto il 22 gennaio 2026 a Milano e ha rappresentato un momento di diffusione e validazione dei risultati del progetto FuturE-Pack.
    L’incontro ha attivato un confronto diretto tra ricerca e imprese della filiera del packaging, favorendo la verifica delle soluzioni sviluppate in relazione a esigenze e pratiche industriali.
    Il workshop si è focalizzato su due strumenti chiave del progetto: una piattaforma digitale interattiva e un toolkit progettuale a supporto di tracciabilità, innovazione e progettazione sistemica di packaging smart e sostenibili. L’iniziativa ha contribuito a rafforzare il dialogo tra accademia e industria, evidenziando il ruolo del packaging come infrastruttura abilitante per la transizione circolare.
