Industrial processes

Main industrial processes including production, material conversion, and packaging of goods.

Observing these processes enables an understanding of how production technologies, industrial constraints, and scalability requirements influence design configurations and the performance of packaging systems.

Analysed in relation to materials, morphologies, and models of innovation, industrial processes help outline the technical and production framework within which contemporary packaging solutions are developed.

Handmade Packaging / Hand Assembly
Handmade packaging consists of performing the sequence of assembly, folding and filling the package partially or entirely by hand.

Manual packaging or the manual production of packaging is very common and is necessary in a number of circumstances
  • the creation of a prototype or a pre-production run of a new package
  • the production of small batches for focus groups, panel tests or market tests prior to the availability of all the production and packaging technologies required for a new product
  • in the case of limited runs of packaging where the small volume does not justify an investment in automation
  • in the case of packaging which, due to its complexity, cannot be automated at a reasonable cost
  • in the case of traditional products which, by their very nature, do not lend themselves to automation (e.g. Tuscan cigars, conical cigarettes in Indonesia, etc.)
Confezionamento manuale
