Morphologies


    Main morphologies of packaging: structural typologies, formal configurations, and design solutions adopted within packaging systems.

    The analysis of morphologies enables observation of how form, structure, and the articulation of components influence functional performance, product protection, logistical dynamics, and user interaction. 

    Considered in relation to materials, production processes, and design strategies, morphologies represent a key dimension for understanding the evolution of packaging solutions and the transformations currently affecting the packaging sector.

    Basket
    A container, usually of a cage-like design, used to hold and transport items, most commonly bottles of water and other drinks.

    It is usually made of plastic or metal; there are also versions made of cardboard or corrugated board, particularly for small bottles.
    Cestello
    Contenitore, generalmente con struttura a gabbia, per contenere e trasportare oggetti, più comunemente bottiglie di acqua e altre bevande.

    Solitamente realizzato in plastica o metallo; esistono anche soluzioni in cartoncino o cartone ondulato, soprattutto per bottiglie di piccola dimensione.

    A Clamshell Pack is single‑piece packaging structure comprising two complementary shells connected by an integral hinge, designed to close onto itself to form an enclosure for a product
    The shells and the hinge are formed from a single continuous piece of material, which may be thermoformed plastic, molded fibre, or die‑cut and folded paperboard.
    Confezione con apertura a conchiglia
    Una confezione a conchiglia è una struttura monopezzo composta da due gusci complementari collegati da una cerniera integrata, progettata per chiudersi su se stessa e formare un involucro per un prodotto.
    I gusci e la cerniera sono formati da un unico pezzo continuo di materiale, che può essere plastica termoformata, fibra stampata o cartone fustellato e piegato.

    Crate
    Low-sided crate for fruit and vegetables. Usually it is made of a rigid material such as wood or plastic or corrugated board.

    Depending on the load being carried, the sides can be of various heights.
    Some models feature folding sides that can be lowered to minimise the overall dimensions when empty.
    It is also known as a plateau.
    Cassetta
    Contenitore di forma ampia e con sponde basse, senza coperchio, realizzato solitamente in legno, in cartone ondulato o in plastica. È utilizzata comunemente per trasportare frutta e verdura.

    A seconda del contenuto trasportato, le sponde possono assumere diverse altezze.
    Esistono alcune versioni con sponde pieghevoli abbattibili, per ottimizzare l 'ingombro quando vuote.
    Viene chiamata anche plateau.

    Scatola composta da due parti (base e coperchio) realizzate con un telaio di rinforzo interno in cartoncino spesso e un rivestimento in carta che mantiene la struttua in forma.

    Struttura indeformabile di alta gamma, non abbattibile, caratterizzata da spigoli netti e un’elevata resistenza alla compressione. È il formato standard per prodotti di valore come profumi, elettronica di consumo, gioielleria o confezioni regalo premium (gift box).

    Slide Box

A premium packaging format known for its smooth and engaging opening motion. The dual-wall construction provides excellent structural rigidity and product protection. It is widely used for luxury fashion accessories (such as belts, ties, or jewelry) and gift sets, often featuring ribbon pulls or thumb notches to assist with the sliding action.
    Pacchetto scorrevole
    Confezione composta da due elementi separati: un manicotto esterno aperto su uno o entrambi i lati, e un vassoio interno (cassetto) che scorre longitudinalmente per rivelare il contenuto. Questa confezione è caratterizzata da un movimento di apertura fluido e scenografico. La struttura a doppio strato garantisce un’ottima protezione laterale e rigidità. È la scelta d’elezione per il packaging di accessori moda (cinture, cravatte, gioielleria), piccoli dispositivi elettronici o set regalo premium, spesso arricchita da asole in tessuto o nastri per agevolare l’estrazione.

    The lid varies greatly in shape and closure method.

    La confezione a vassoio consiste in una base formata per piega a mo’ di vassoio partendo da uno sbozzato in cartoncino o cartone ondulato e un coperchio che può essere incernierato al vassoio (solitamente sul bordo lungo) oppure separato.
    Il coperchio varia fortemente per forme e modalità di chiusura.
