Morphologies


    Main morphologies of packaging: structural typologies, formal configurations, and design solutions adopted within packaging systems.

    The analysis of morphologies enables observation of how form, structure, and the articulation of components influence functional performance, product protection, logistical dynamics, and user interaction. 

    Considered in relation to materials, production processes, and design strategies, morphologies represent a key dimension for understanding the evolution of packaging solutions and the transformations currently affecting the packaging sector.

    Basket
    A container, usually of a cage-like design, used to hold and transport items, most commonly bottles of water and other drinks.

    It is usually made of plastic or metal; there are also versions made of cardboard or corrugated board, particularly for small bottles.
    Cestello
    Contenitore, generalmente con struttura a gabbia, per contenere e trasportare oggetti, più comunemente bottiglie di acqua e altre bevande.

    Solitamente realizzato in plastica o metallo; esistono anche soluzioni in cartoncino o cartone ondulato, soprattutto per bottiglie di piccola dimensione.

    Crate
    Low-sided crate for fruit and vegetables. Usually it is made of a rigid material such as wood or plastic or corrugated board.

    Depending on the load being carried, the sides can be of various heights.
    Some models feature folding sides that can be lowered to minimise the overall dimensions when empty.
    It is also known as a plateau.
    Cassetta
    Contenitore di forma ampia e con sponde basse, senza coperchio, realizzato solitamente in legno, in cartone ondulato o in plastica. È utilizzata comunemente per trasportare frutta e verdura.

    A seconda del contenuto trasportato, le sponde possono assumere diverse altezze.
    Esistono alcune versioni con sponde pieghevoli abbattibili, per ottimizzare l 'ingombro quando vuote.
    Viene chiamata anche plateau.

    Shallow Tray
    A rigid or semi-rigid container featuring a flat base and low-profile sidewalls (shallow in depth relative to its width). It lacks an integrated top closure and is commonly manufactured from paperboard, thermoformed plastic, metal, or wood.

    A structural support or display unit designed to organize and hold one or more product units. In the fashion and accessories industry, it serves as a presentation tray for hardware, jewelry, or as an internal base for gift sets, typically placed inside a larger box or over-wrapped with film.
    Vassoio
    Contenitore rigido o semirigido caratterizzato da una base piana e sponde laterali di altezza ridotta (basse rispetto alla larghezza). È privo di una chiusura superiore integrata e può essere realizzato in cartoncino, plastica termoformata, metallo o legno. Supporto espositivo o logistico progettato per contenere e mantenere in ordine una o più unità di prodotto. Nel settore abbigliamento e accessori, viene utilizzato come vassoio di presentazione per minuteria, gioielleria o come base interna per set regalo, spesso inserito all’interno di una scatola più grande o sigillato con film plastico.

    Skin Pack
    Packaging consisting of a thin thermoplastic film vacuum-sealed around a product placed on a rigid base (treated cardboard or tray) When heated, the film softens and, thanks to the vacuum, is drawn to adhere perfectly to the contours of the product, sealing it hermetically to the base. This type of packaging, where the film acts as a "second skin", ensures maximum visibility and protection.
    Unlike Blister packaging, the film is not pre-formed but molded during the process. It is the preferred choice for hardware, luxury accessories, or DIY kits, as it secures the items to prevent movement and oxidation while allowing for effective vertical peg-board display.

    Imballaggio a pelle
    Confezione costituita da un sottile film in materiale termoplastico avvolto sottovuoto attorno a un prodotto posizionato su una base rigida (cartoncino trattato o vaschetta) Il film riscaldato, rammollisce e, tramite il vuoto, viene portato ad aderire perfettamente ai contorni del prodotto sigillandolo ermeticamente al supporto. Questo tipo di confezione garantisce massima visibilità e protezione.
    A differenza del Blister, il film non è pre-formato ma si modella in tempo reale sulla forma dell’oggetto.
    È ideale per minuterie metalliche, accessori di pregio o kit di riparazione, poiché blocca saldamente il contenuto impedendone lo sfregamento e l’ossidazione, permettendo al contempo l’esposizione verticale su ganci.

    Tray
    A semi-rigid, open-top container produced via thermoforming (plastic), molding (molded pulp), or deep-drawing (aluminum). It features a flat base and sidewalls that often end in a horizontal rim or flange, designed for easy handling or for securing a heat-sealed lidding film.
    Vaschetta
    Contenitore semirigido a cielo aperto, ottenuto tramite stampaggio (plastica termoformata, polpa di cellulosa) o imbutitura (alluminio). È caratterizzata da una base piana e pareti laterali svasate o dritte, terminanti spesso con un bordo perimetrale (flangia) per agevolare la manipolazione o la termosaldatura di un film di chiusura.
