A multi-ply paperboard with middle layers of mechanical pulp sandwiched between outer layers of bleached chemical pulp. The top layer is usually coated with a white pigment; the reverse is traditionally cream (manila), because the back chemical-pulp layer is translucent and lets the colour of the core show through. A stronger treatment of the core, or a thicker or coated back, lightens the reverse (white-back).
The light mechanical-pulp core between chemical-pulp faces gives high stiffness at low weight and good creasing.
It is the most widely used board for folding cartons in food, confectionery, cosmetics, health-and-beauty and pharmaceuticals.
In the European grade letters it is GC (gestrichener Chromokarton), as GC1 and GC2.
Typical grammage 200-350 g/m²; thickness about 305-640 µm - bulkier than SBB at equal grammage.
Cartoncino multistrato con strati intermedi di pasta meccanica racchiusi tra strati esterni di pasta chimica sbiancata.
Lo strato superiore è di norma patinato con pigmento bianco; il retro è tradizionalmente color crema (manila), perché lo strato posteriore di pasta chimica lascia trasparire la tonalità dell’anima. Un trattamento più spinto dell’anima, o un retro più spesso o patinato, schiarisce il rovescio (white-back).
La combinazione di pasta meccanica leggera nello strato centrale e facce di pasta chimica conferisce elevata rigidità a basso peso e buona cordonatura.
È il cartoncino più diffuso per astucci pieghevoli di alimentari, dolciumi, cosmetici, salute e bellezza e farmaceutici.
Nelle sigle europee è il GC (gestrichener Chromokarton), nelle varianti GC1 e GC2.
Grammatura tipica 200-350 g/m²; spessore circa 305-640 µm - più voluminoso, a pari grammatura, rispetto al cartoncino in pura cellulosa (SBB).
