Purpose
The decree implements EU Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), aiming to reduce the environmental impact of WEEE, promote material recovery and recycling, and ensure safe and efficient management of electronic waste.
Scope of application
It applies to all electrical and electronic equipment placed on the national market, both domestic and professional, covering all stages of WEEE management: collection, preliminary storage, transport, treatment, recovery, disposal, and funding of the management system.
Main features and mechanisms
It establishes organised systems for the collection and treatment of WEEE, assigns producers responsibility for waste management (extended producer responsibility), requires authorisations for operators, regulates cross-border shipment and distance sales. It includes obligations for information and monitoring, funds management through producer contributions, and sanctions for non-compliance.
