VR (Virtual reality)
Acronym that indicates a digital simulation of environments with which the user can interact through devices such as visors and sensory gloves. VR ffers an immersive experience that can range from partial interactions to full multi-sensory immersions, and is used in video games, education and entertainment.
The main types of virtual reality are:
Non-immersive simulation: the user remains aware of the physical environment and interacts with the virtual world via computer, console, keyboard or controller (e.g. traditional video games).
Semi-immersive simulation: offers a partially virtual experience with detailed 3D graphics while maintaining a link to the real world. It is used in education and training, often with projectors or simulators.
Fully-immersive simulation: provides the most realistic VR experience, with high-resolution visors and motion tracking for an immersive 3D effect. Initially used in video games, it is finding application in education and other sectors.
