Spin
Industrial process by which textile fibres are transformed into yarn, or into a continuous thread ready for weaving or knitting. It includes a series of mechanical operations ranging from the preparation of the fibres (opening, cleaning, carding, combing) to the formation of the yarn through coupling, ironing, twisting and conditioning. In a more specific sense, it can also indicate the operation of the spinning machine that transforms the wick (still raw and thick thread) into the finished yarn. Spinning can vary based on the nature of the fibres (natural, artificial or synthetic) and the technology used (ring spinning, open-end, air spinning, etc.).
Processo industriale attraverso il quale le fibre tessili vengono trasformate in filato, ovvero in un filo continuo pronto per la tessitura o la maglieria. Comprende una serie di operazioni meccaniche che vanno dalla preparazione delle fibre (apertura, pulitura, cardatura, pettinatura) fino alla formazione del filato tramite accoppiamento, stiratura, torsione e condizionatura. In senso più specifico, può indicare anche l’operazione del filatoio che trasforma il lucignolo (filo ancora grezzo e spesso) nel filato finito. La filatura può variare in base alla natura delle fibre (naturali, artificiali o sintetiche) e alla tecnologia impiegata (filatura ad anello, open-end, ad aria, ecc.).
