Filament
Textile element of elongated and thin shape, used as a basic unit for spinning and producing yarns and fabrics.
In technical language it can indicate a continuous thread of theoretically indefinite length, such as: in natural silk (the fibroin filament secreted by the silkworm), in chemical yarns (continuous spinning obtained by extrusion through holes in the spinneret).
It constitutes the starting point in the production of textile materials, and can be natural, artificial or synthetic, depending on the origin and the production process.
Elemento tessile di forma allungata e sottile, utilizzato come unità base per la filatura e la produzione di filati e tessuti.
Nel linguaggio tecnico può indicare un filo continuo di lunghezza teoricamente indefinita, come: nella seta naturale (la bava di fibroina secreta dal baco da seta), nei filati chimici (la filatura continua ottenuta per estrusione attraverso fori di filiera).
Costituisce il punto di partenza nella realizzazione di materiali tessili, e può essere naturale, artificiale o sintetica, a seconda dell’origine e del processo produttivo.
