HolyGrail 2.0

An invisible digital watermark designed to make waste sorting more accurate and efficient.

In 2021 in Belgium, HolyGrail 2.0 was launched by AIM and powered by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste. The project develops imperceptible digital watermarks applied to packaging to enhance identification in sorting facilities. A high-resolution camera reads the code and directs the item to the correct stream, improving accuracy and the quality of recyclates. The project addresses the need Recycling Facilitation and Waste Disposal Optimisation (R8 Circularity Strategy).
