The Body Shop
The Body Shop International Limited is a British ethical and natural cosmetics company, founded in 1976 in Brighton by Anita Roddick, a pioneer in opposing animal testing, using natural ingredients and trading fairly with producer communities. Historically innovative in packaging too, the company was among the first to launch an in-store container refill programme.
After being acquired by L'Oréal in 2006, sold to Natura & Co (Brazil) in 2017, and sold again to private equity firm Aurelius in November 2023, the company went through a severe financial crisis: in February 2024 its UK division entered administration, followed in March 2024 by the complete shutdown of US operations (Chapter 7 bankruptcy) and creditor protection in Canada. In September 2024 the brand was acquired by Auréa Group, which took over the remaining UK stores and assets in Australia and the US. Despite the ongoing turnaround, in January 2025 the New Zealand subsidiary also entered voluntary administration.

Storicamente innovativa anche sul fronte del packaging, l'azienda lanciò tra le prime un programma di ricarica dei contenitori in negozio.
Dopo l'acquisizione da parte di L'Oréal nel 2006, la cessione a Natura & Co (Brasile) nel 2017 e la vendita al fondo di private equity Aurelius nel novembre 2023, l'azienda ha attraversato una fase di grave crisi finanziaria: nel febbraio 2024 la divisione britannica è entrata in amministrazione controllata, seguita a marzo 2024 dalla chiusura totale delle attività statunitensi (fallimento Chapter 7) e dalla protezione dai creditori in Canada. Nel settembre 2024 il marchio è stato acquisito da Auréa Group, che ne ha rilevato i negozi britannici rimanenti e gli asset in Australia e USA. Nonostante il turnaround in corso, nel gennaio 2025 anche la controllata neozelandese è entrata in amministrazione volontaria.
