DESCRIPTION

The project explores how immersive and distributed XR technologies can enhance industrial training by creating flexible, context-aware learning environments. Through an integrated ecosystem of AR and VR applications, it supports both trainers and apprentices in navigating complex machinery, annotating processes, and accessing knowledge across different levels of reality. Designed for low-resource industrial contexts, the system promotes proximity, improves understanding of autonomous machine behaviours, and strengthens human–machine interaction. Its multi-layered approach fosters engagement, facilitates knowledge transfer, and contributes to more resilient and human-centred production systems.

IMPACTS & RESULTS

The project shows how a distributed XR training ecosystem can strengthen operator proximity, improve situational awareness, and support learning in complex industrial settings. By integrating AR and VR layers, the system enables contextual, on-the-job training, enhances the transfer of tacit knowledge, and adapts to diverse user skills. Tested on real machinery, it improves learning efficiency, reduces cognitive load, and supports decision-making in low-resource environments. The approach also fosters collaborative problem-solving, encourages knowledge sharing across generations, and increases the resilience and sustainability of production lines.
