The Advanced Design Unit (ADU) operates within the University of Bologna, applying design disciplines to complex contexts and developing research and third mission activities across diverse fields, in collaboration with research institutions, public bodies, and companies. The research unit is involved in numerous projects at the local, national, and international levels, consolidating a broad and articulated network of partnerships.
Advanced Design is configured as a research methodology that interprets design from a systemic, participatory, and relational perspective, with particular attention to processes that intersect industrial, cultural, and social dimensions. It promotes a responsible and sustainable approach, oriented toward original, challenging, and cross-sectoral themes.
Through the observation and study of societal and planetary change, design cultures take on an active and transformative role within contemporary contexts. The Advanced Design approach is grounded in anticipation practices, scenario building, and change studies, while maintaining a strong focus on the evolution of emerging technologies.
